Privacy policy

A short summary of how BioBloom Life handles personal and clinical data. The full policy is provided to patients before any sample is collected.

Who we are

BioBloom Life is the trading name of BioBloom Life Ltd (registered in England and Wales as Biobloom Life Limited, company number 17021036). Our registered office is Silverstream House, 45 Fitzroy Street, London, W1T 6EB. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

Controller and processor

Our role depends on the data. For clinical samples and laboratory data referred by partner fertility clinics, the referring clinic remains the data controller for the patient’s clinical record and BioBloom Life Ltd acts as a processor for the laboratory analysis and the resulting report. We do not establish a direct clinical relationship with patients and we do not return results to patients outside the controlling clinic’s environment. For this website, enquiries sent through our contact form, and clinic-portal user accounts, BioBloom Life Ltd is the data controller.

How we handle samples and data

Sample identifiers are pseudonymised before sequencing. The link between a pseudonym and a patient identity is held by the referring clinic, not by BioBloom Life Ltd. Raw sequence data is stored in encrypted form, retained only for as long as is necessary for the clinical purpose and any associated quality-assurance obligations, and is never linked back to a patient outside the controlling clinic’s environment.

Website visitors and analytics

We use privacy-preserving analytics (PostHog, hosted in the EU) to understand aggregate site usage. It is configured without cookies or persistent identifiers on your device, with session recording disabled, and it honours your browser’s Do Not Track setting. No analytics run inside the clinic, lab, or patient questionnaire areas. Our hosting infrastructure keeps standard, short-lived server logs (including IP addresses) for security and abuse prevention.

Contacting us through this website

If you use the contact form we collect the name, email address, organisation, and message you provide. This is stored securely in our systems and delivered to our enquiries inbox so we can respond; the lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries. Your IP address is processed briefly for rate-limiting to prevent abuse. Enquiry records are kept only as long as needed to handle the enquiry and any follow-up.

Service providers

We use a small number of vetted service providers to run this website and service: secure cloud hosting and database infrastructure, transactional email delivery, payment processing for clinic billing, and EU-hosted analytics. Each processes data only on our instructions and under a written agreement.

Research use and opt-out

Aggregated, fully de-identified data may be used to improve the assay and to support peer-reviewed research published by BioBloom Life and its academic collaborators. Patients can opt out of research use at any time via their referring clinic; opt-out applies to future use and, where technically possible, to data already held in research datasets.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and portability with respect to personal data held about you. Because the referring clinic is the controller, requests are best directed there in the first instance - they hold the identity link and can route the request to BioBloom Life Ltd if it requires action on the laboratory data we process on their behalf. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).

Contacting us

For data-protection enquiries, contact your referring clinic in the first instance. You can also write to BioBloom Life Ltd by email at enquiries@biobloomlife.com or by post to the registered office listed in the site footer. The full, unsummarised policy and the patient consent materials are issued by your clinic before any sample is collected.
